MSDSs AND MSDS-TYPE INFORMATION ON OTHER WEB SERVERS:
Information on other Web Sites with chemical and MSDS information follow. (Use such information with caution since information in these data bases may be dated [e.g., permissible exposure levels, disposal information, etc.]. Check other references too. UCHC faculty and staff should also use the MSDS data described at the beginning of this paragraph because it is updated quarterly). MSDSs at other Web Sites include:

Good safety practices, safety regulations and environmental regulations require that users have knowledge of the hazardous properties (health, flammability, reactivity, etc.) of the chemicals and chemical products they use or intend to use. MSDSs are the information sheets that suppliers of chemicals and chemical products provide to users of their products. Both the small (laboratory) and large user of the same item receive the same MSDS. Thus, professional judgment is needed to tailor the generic safety information, warnings and recommendations on a product to local conditions of use and local emergency situations. When chemicals are used in the laboratory check the UCHC Chemical Hygiene Plan requirements. If assistance is needed in obtaining the MSDSs or in the evaluation of your safety procedures for using a chemical product, every Health Center function should contact the Environmental Health and Safety Office (2723). Many excellent sources of chemical safety information are available to you and are outlined below. Persons working in a laboratory must have completed Laboratory Safety Training (schedule). As you access safety information on chemicals consider:
All the potential hazards (fire, reactivity, health, etc.); |
Consultation with the Environmental Health and Safety Office and the UCHC Chemical Hygiene Officer (x2723); |
For laboratory activities, the requirements of the UCHC Chemical Hygiene Plan; |
Actions needed to educate your students and employees on the hazards and the actions needed to reduce risks; |
Occupational exposure limits have been established for many chemicals. Check the most current limit by calling Environmental Health and Safety Office (x2723) and also consider with them the desirability of, or requirement for, exposure monitoring; |
Always forward a copy of any Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) you receive directly from a supplier or contractor to Environmental Health and Safety Office (MC-3930); |
Refer employees with health complaints related to occupational chemical exposures to Employee Health Service; and |
Chemical and chemical waste products have additional regulations that cover their disposal (contact the Environmental Health and Safety Office at x2723) and/or the UCHC Chemical Hygiene Plan for additional information. |
