UCHC ERGONOMICS

The goal of the UCHC Ergonomics Program is to reduce the risks of repetitive motion injuries (RMI) through employee education and through the elimination of recognized hazards that may contribute to the development of these injuries.

SAFE PATIENT HANDLING TEAMS (Together Everyone Achieves Mobility Safely)

To establish the highest degree of patient and employee safety within the task of patient handling,  UConn Health Center has established a patient handling program for JDH and UMG.

EDUCATION

Employees across a wide variety of professions are at risk of these injuries due to activities involving force, repetition or awkward postures. Education can reduce risks by providing information and tools on recognition and prevention of common RMI. Specific topics could include achieving neutral body posture, recommended arrangement of computer workstations and initial warning signs of repetitive motion injury.

ELIMINATION OF HAZARDS

Prevention is the cornerstone of an effective ergonomics plan. The information available through this website is intended to answer questions you may have about ergonomics, and provide you with tools to do an initial evaluation of your workstation and job operation. Minor changes or adjustment in equipment, furniture or work habits are often all that is needed to reduce or eliminate risks.
